Our verdict: ✅ Worth it if you love jar candles and want the scent without a flame. 🤔 Skip it if what you really love is the flicker of a real flame, or your candles are in tall or odd-shaped jars.
How we judged: this verdict is based on how candle warmer lamps work, product specs and owner reviews on Amazon.ca. We haven't finished a long-term test at home yet; when we do, we'll update this page with our own results.
How a candle warmer lamp works
A small lamp with a warm bulb shines down on an open jar candle. The heat melts the top layer of wax, which releases the fragrance. Nothing burns, so there is no flame, no smoke and no black soot on the jar or walls.
✅ What's good
- No open flame. Easier to relax with pets, kids nearby or when you leave the room for a minute.
- No soot. Jars stay clean and walls don't get grey marks.
- Candles last longer. The wax melts instead of burning away, so a candle keeps giving scent for longer.
- It's also a lamp. Most are dimmable, so it doubles as warm evening light.
- Timers. Many, like the one below, switch off on their own.
❌ What disappoints people
- No flicker. It's a lamp, not candlelight.
- Jar fit. Tall jars may not fit under the shade; very wide jars may only melt in the middle.
- The bulb gets hot. Keep it away from curious hands, and let it cool before you swap candles.
- Scent fades eventually. Once the fragrance is used up, the wax is still there but smells of little.
Does it cost much to run?
Candle warmer bulbs are usually in the 25 to 50 watt range (check the listing). As an example, a 35 W bulb on for 4 hours uses 0.14 kWh, which is a couple of cents at typical Canadian electricity rates.
